Studio updates
Control desktop updates and choose when Studio restarts into a new release.
The Studio desktop app downloads and installs new releases in the background, but it never restarts on its own. You pick the moment, so a running query or an unsaved edit is never interrupted. If you would rather also choose when to download, turn automatic updates off. The web app updates when you reload the page.

How updates work
Automatic updates are on by default. Studio checks for a new release when it starts and every four hours while you use it. It also checks when a window gets focus or the network comes back, at most once every fifteen minutes. The check does not need you to be signed in.
With automatic updates on, Studio downloads and installs each new release in the background and then shows Update ready. With automatic updates off, Studio still tells you that a release is available and waits for you to download it.
Check for updates now
- Open Settings from the account menu.
- Select General.
- Under Software updates, select Check for updates.
- If a new version is available, select Download update.
Settings shows the installed version, the update status, and the download progress when the size is known.
Turn automatic updates off
- Open Settings from the account menu.
- Select General.
- Set Automatic updates to Off.
The setting applies to this device and survives restarts. If you turn it off while a download is running, the download stops; an installation that has already started finishes.
Restart into an update
- Save your local edits.
- When Studio shows Update ready, select Restart to update.
- Confirm with Restart to update in the dialog.
The restart stops local queries and agent work that are running. To keep working, select Later instead: the update then takes effect the next time you quit and reopen Studio. After the restart, open Settings to confirm that the installed version is the new one.
Troubleshooting

| You quit during a download | Reopen Studio. Partial downloads do not resume, so Studio starts a fresh check. |
Availability
Automatic updates need a desktop release that supports them. If you run an older release, install a newer one manually once from the download page. Development builds never check for updates.
