Studio windows and Organizations

Switch Organizations in Studio web, or open desktop windows with a separate Organization in each.

In development

If you belong to more than one Organization, switch between them from Studio's account menu to browse each Organization's Projects. In the desktop app, you can also open a window for each Organization. Studio's sign-in is separate from the CLI's, so switching here does not change the Organization your terminal uses.

Open another desktop window

  1. Select File → New Window, or select New window from the account menu. The keyboard shortcut is Command+N on macOS and Ctrl+N on Linux.
  2. Select a Project in the new window.

A new window starts in the Organization you selected most recently. Windows that are already open keep theirs. To reload the active window, select View → Reload Window.

Switch Organization

  1. Save local edits. In the web app, save edits in your other Studio tabs too.
  2. Open the account menu and select Switch organization….
  3. Select an Organization from the list.
  4. Select Switch organization.

Studio loads the Projects you can access in that Organization. In the web app, Studio tabs in the same browser share the selected Organization and reload after a switch. Desktop windows keep separate selections, so switching affects only the current window. If the switch fails, Studio keeps the current Organization and shows the error. Reloading a page or renewing the session keeps the selected Organization.

Some Organizations ask you to sign in again. Select Sign in to this organization to continue with the same account, or select Cancel to stay where you are. The web app takes you through sign-in in the current tab. The desktop app opens your browser, and other desktop windows keep working while you sign in. Cancelling sign-in leaves the previous Organization selected.

Saved credentials

Studio releases save desktop sign-in tokens in your system credential store: Keychain on macOS, Credential Manager on Windows, and Secret Service on Linux. On Linux, keep a Secret Service running and unlocked. If your operating system asks for permission, allow Studio access. If the credential store is unavailable, Studio shows an error instead of saving tokens to an unencrypted file.

Desktop sign-in across windows

Each window keeps its own session. If a window hits an authentication error, only that window signs out. When you sign in again, any other window that is waiting on the sign-in screen resumes too, and windows that were still signed in keep their Organization.

Sign out in the account menu is different: it signs out every Studio window and cancels any sign-in in progress.

Troubleshooting sign-in

If Studio rejects a sign-in because you used a different account, select Reset sign-in and sign in again. The reset signs out every Studio window.

If Studio reports that it could not remove your saved credentials, unlock the system credential store and allow Studio access. Then select Reset sign-in before you restart Studio. If the error continues, check access permissions for Studio's configuration folder.
